Due to some early mistakes in accurately reporting the location of Camp Lincoln, the camp in which detainees from the Dakota War of 1812 were help, there is some dispute over wether or not Camp Lincoln was in modern day Sibley Park. Some claim that Camp Lincoln was actually located in nearby South Bend. However, thanks to drawings and written descriptions created in the 1800s we can confidently conclude Camp Lincoln and Sibley Park are in fact the same place. The distinctive mound (Sibley Mound) can be seen in Sibley Park as well as drawings of Camp Lincoln. [1]
